Best Smartphone 2018 — My Top Picks

The modern smartphone market is flooded with products, but not all of them are created equal. In fact, the quality and features vary wildly, putting pressure on users to make educated choices. There are many moving parts to grasp and they need to match your wants and needs perfectly. Well, to empower you in your quest, we have compiled a short list of products that are probably worth your while. Here are the best of the best as far as I am concerned.

Samsung Galaxy S9+

Many would agree that this marvel of modern technology firmly holds the throne. It comes with all the features you would expect from a premium phone. What first pops up are a top-notch build and a SUPER AMOLED 6.2 display, which is a real feast for the eyes. Processing power is impressive thanks to Snapdragon 845/Exynos 9810 and 6GB RAM. Front 8MP and Dual 12MP rear cameras will not disappoint anyone and they perform exceptionally well in low-light. The only flaw I could find is that battery life is less than stellar when compared to the competition.

Google Pixel 2 XL

Google has joined the smartphone race with a bang. Rear (12MP) and front camera (8MP) on this device are so good that people call it a cameraphone. The viewing angles are not ideal, but that is the only blemish. Beyond that, Pixel 2 XL does not lag when it comes to performance, as it boasts Snapdragon 845 and 4GB RAM. What is more, they have a great build with a wider frame and great screen. Note that Android is rolling in various upgrades for this phone before they hit the wider market. I am just not a fan of phones lacking a 3.5mm headphone port.

Huawei Y6

The title of the best budget smartphone goes to Huawei Y6. It features a fresh new design that looks better than its predecessors. Snapdragon 425 and 2GB RAM will not blow you away, but they offer consistent performance. The device ships with Android 8.0 Oreo with Huawei’s EMUI 8.0 installed on top. The 5.7 display finally features 18:9 aspect ratio, which is a welcome change. Naturally, a price tag of around 120 Euros featured by providers like Orange will entice many buyers to give this one a go. It simply has very well-rounded specs for basically an entry-level cost.

iPhone X

Apple’s flagship is a huge leap forward, the best smartphone company has ever made. The 5.8-inch OLED is a joy to look at due to incredible color reproduction. The device has powerful innards: A11 Bionic CPU and 3GB RAM. This is a quite a lot of power packed under the hood. Furthermore, dual 12MP rear cameras build on a swell tradition of previous models. They are capable of capturing rich, professional-looking shots. The battery is solid, although not top-of-the-line. One thing that could put people off is the price tag. Oh, and the headphone jack is missing.

Oneplus 6

This phone is just one outstanding package. First of all, it oozes that contemporary, sleek charm I cannot resist. Snapdragon 845, the paragon of processing prowess, is here and coupled with up to 8GB RAM, it can go toe-to-toe with most of the competition. Front and dual rear cameras are all 12MP. Battery life is quite goods. Even heavy users should see it lasting for more than a day. Some people might be disappointed with the fact that display is “only” Full HD, but the aspect ratio should make up for it. Overall, Oneplus 6 is superb value for a relatively low price.

More power to you!

Brands these days are competing for a delicious market pie and treat users to ever more powerful models with high specs. There are so many products that deserve our attention, but the million dollar question is what the one that deserves our money is. Well, you cannot go wrong with the above-featured phones. That being said, do not just take my word for it. Embark on your own research and shopping adventure with one goal in mind: getting the most bang for your buck.
